Abstract

By reviewing the tragic death of Chilean worker Sebastián Acevedo, the article analyzes the constitution of a narrative of martyrdom in a secular space and shows the importance of sacrifice as a constitutive element of modern social mobilization in Latin America. Martyrdom is here recovered as a narrative pattern in the public construction of the case and its expression as hope.
